The deadline for the show in the museum in Brussels forced Dirk to stay in Belgium and sculpt a beluga from picture to fulfill his contract.
The moulding of the real one was put on the waiting list.
Since Dirk is pretty obsessed with natural shapes and work in situ and also stimulated by the film project, we decided to schedule the trip to Greenland later in the year 2003. Besides, I myself was eager to create a artproject from the future beluga mould .
  
The planning of the project proved to be difficult because all the information, vague as the situation regarding the migration of the belugas could be, relied on 2 different contactmen in Denmark. Their stories did not match as to the time and place of the migration or at least they did sound contradictory.

At the start of October 2003, we received a phonecall from Kopenhagen that belugas had been spotted in the area of Uummanaaq.
